Opening Ceremony at Lincoln Memorial January 18, 2009 The 2009 Inaugural celebration begins with a star-studded concert at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, January 18 at 2 p.m. The event will be free and open to the public, kicking off the most open and accessible Inauguration in history. It will be presented by HBO 7:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT for Americans to enjoy across the country. I am proud to announce that the combined choirs from USNA (Men’s Glee Club, Women’s Glee Club, and Gospel Choir) will be participating in the concert! The choir will be performing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” with classical artist Renee Fleming and “America the Beautiful” in a combined grand finale with a 500-voice choir and Beyonce. The event will include an incredible lineup of celebrities. Additional performers include Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am, and Stevie Wonder. Among those reading historical passages will be Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington. The President Elect, his family, staff, and an expected 1+ million people will be in attendance! This is an incredible opportunity for our choirs and highlights the high esteem in which our ensembles are held - on a national and international level!!! Be sure to watch your shipmates Sunday night!
