Obituary for Al Tisdale



Albin “Al” Arthur Tisdale passed away, Monday, August 31, 2009. The youngest of four children, he was born February 26, 1931 to Charles and Edith Tisdale in Hayes, Kansas. After being raised in Russell, KS he enlisted in the US Navy and graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1954. Upon graduation, he married Ann Marie Overbaugh. He served as a Lieutenant Commander and decorated naval pilot until his military retirement in 1974. He then continued to pursue his love of flying as a flight instructor with McDonnell Douglas and Flight Safety International. He met and married Jerri Johnson in St. Louis and they enjoyed 21 loving and devoted years together. They enjoyed spending time together, visiting their children and grandchildren and traveling the globe. This included an opportunity to live in Portugal where he flew as a captain for a private company. Upon return to the U.S. they lived in St. Louis, MO and San Antonio, TX where he worked for Flight Safety until his retirement. They later moved to Springfield, Missouri. He is survived by his wife Jerri, his daughter, Ann Louise, her husband Guillermo, their three children, Benjamin, William, and Nicholas and his sister Johanna. He is also survived by his stepchildren Kurt, Laura, and Julie, and granddaughter Kathryn along with many nieces and nephews. Services: A memorial service will be held at Gateway Christian Church, 1951 Des Peres Rd., Town and Country, MO at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 4th. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Donations may be made in his honor to the Springfield Cox Meals on Wheels, the Disabled American Veterans, or Fisher House at Jefferson Barracks.
