Obituary for Ed Copland


Edward C. Copeland 7th Company
October 19, 1928 - September 28, 2013.  Ed passed peacefully after lengthy medical problems. Ed was born to Robin and Alice Copeland in Orlando, FL.  He spent his childhood in Florida, North Carolina, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, D.C.  He is survived by his wife, Isabelle, son E. A. Copeland, San Jose, CA, Dr. James R. Copeland and wife Pamela, Seattle, WA, daughter Caroline Bellicitti,Campbell, CA, grandchildren John and Jaclyn Bellicitti, and Sophia Copeland.  He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Jennings, brother Robert Copeland and brother-in-law James McDarment.
Ed was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1950, graduating in 1954. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, 1961.  Retiring from active duty in 1975, started a second career with General Dynamics, Applied Technology, and various volunteer assignments with Santa Clara County, CA.
Health issues required Ed to retire from his second career and he continued his lifelong adventure with boating.  He was Past Commodore of Sequoia Yacht Club, Redwood City, CA, and remained very active with the club as long as his health allowed.
A memorial will be held Sunday, October 20, 2:00 pm, at Sequoia Yacht Club, Redwood City, CA
