Death of a Classmate - Stanley Swanson - 18th Co.

I received the following from  June Swanson :

Just wanted to let you know of the passing of my husband, Stanley Swanson, on October 18th. (18th Company.)

He was always grateful for his Academy education and the many lessons it taught him.  It also gave him a lifelong love and passion for lacrosse.  He started at defense all 3 years he played, and was selected first team All-American his senior year.  The team was national champions in 1954, and he was awarded the William C. Schmeisser Memorial trophy as the outstanding defenseman in college lacrosse.

Wherever we moved he looked for a team to play on.  If there wasn't one, he started it.  He also started or helped start teams at the University of Colorado, Boise State University, and  Idaho University...plus many high schools in Idaho.  After he retired he coached a local high school team, held summer lacrosse camps for young boys, and continued playing in a local "old man's team".  He returned to Annapolis in 2007 to play in the Army-Navy Alumni game.  (He was 76 at that time.)   He passed his passion on the countless boys, many of whom are now coaching teams of their own.  He is now at ease in the Idaho Veterans Cemetery.
