Charles F. Olsen Obituary

Charles F. Olsen, 76, of Annapolis, died Jan. 16 at Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Mr. Olsen was born May 19, 1932, into a Navy family. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1954 and then fulfilled his dream of becoming a fighter pilot. He retired from the Navy in 1966 and began a teaching career at the U.S. Naval Academy, joining a new majors program, the Weapons and Systems Engineering Department, which focused on computers and control systems.

He was appointed chairman of the Weapons and Systems Engineering Department in 1977 and remained in that position until he retired in 1987.

His love of computers continued on, especially in his chat room community, where he was affectionately known as "Skynight," and for helping his friends and relatives who relied heavily on him for "technical support."

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Debbie Olsen of Potomac; his sister and brother-in-law, Betsey and Retired Navy Capt. Philip Ryan of Annapolis; and his grandson, Matthew Olsen.

Memorial services have not yet been finalized.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
