Born in Orlando, FL. Graduate of U.S. Naval Academy 1954 and Naval Post Graduate School, MS Physics 1961. Married Isabelle McDarment of Erie PA, father to Edward, James and Pam, Caroline, grandfather to John, Jaclyn and Sophia.
After twenty five years in Naval Aviation, Ed retired in 1975. An avid sailor and member of Sequoia Yacht Club serving as a Past Commodore. For Santa Clara County he served on the Grand Jury, tutored math at the County Jail, served as alternate parole officer. Ed is survived by his wife, Isabelle, sister Barbara Jennings, brother Robert Copeland, son Edward A. Copeland, son and daughter-in-law Dr. James R. Copeland and Pamela Copeland, daughter Caroline Bellicitti and three grandchildren, John, Jaclyn and Sophia.
Ed was cremated by the Neptune Society.
Memorial will be Sunday, October 20, 2013, 2:00 p.m., Sequoia Yacht Club, 441 Seaport Ct., Redwood City, CA
