Death of a Class Widow - Mrs.William Haygood


Judith Dale (Engel) Haygood, age 81 of Beavercreek, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, she graduated from the Seton High School and the College of Notre Dame. She won the Atlantic Monthly Scholarship in 1954. Mrs. Haygood held a Master's degree in English from the Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury College, Vermont. Mrs. Haygood also graduated from the Kettering College of Medical Arts. Mrs. Haygood taught English on the secondary level at schools in Baltimore, Los Angeles and Beavercreek. She gave many volunteer hours to various organizations such as the USAF Officers' Wives' Club, Boy Scouts of America, and various church organizations. She was a docent at the Dayton Art Institute and a member of the American Association of University Women and the Beavercreek Women's League. Mrs. Haygood enjoyed being the wife of a career Air Force officer traveling in the U.S. and Europe. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Lee Haygood, a graduate of the Naval Academy. She is survived by her daughter Rosalind (Nick) Vidakovic of Sarasota, Florida, and her son Ernest and grandchildren Mariah and William of Beavercreek. Mrs. Haygood is also survived by her brother Edward Engel of Globe, Arizona. The earthly remains of Lee and Judy Haygood will be inurned at the United States Navel Academy columbarium, Annapolis, Maryland. Arrangements have been entrusted to the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL.
