Death of a Classmate - Lt. Col. R. Raley Thomley, USMC - 21st Co.

Lt. Col. R. Raley Thomley, USMC (Ret.) age 88 of Newbern passed away on Friday at the Tennessee State Veteran's Home in Humboldt.

Raley was born in Newton, AL to the late Bert and Selma Raley Thomley. Raley served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and then graduated from Andalusia High School in Andalusia, AL. After graduation he attended Marion Military Institute. As a 1954 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps serving as an Engineer and Intelligence Officer. Raley served in Vietnam from 1965-1966. After being Director of Computer Operations in Philadelphia, he retired in 1969 at the rank of Lt. Col. After his military career, Raley served as Director of Computer Operations for Holiday Inn in Memphis. He enjoyed flying, skiing in Colorado, hunting, tennis and running filled his retirement years.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at St. Mary Episcopal Church with Father Gary Meade officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Ann Moore of Newbern; three sons, Raley Daniel Thomley of Turnersville, NJ, Paul Christopher Thomley (Teresa) of Memphis and Erin Andrew Thomley (Dyan) of Haddonfield, NJ; three daughters, Kathryn Ann Devlin (Charles) of Sewell, NJ, Rosemary Susan T. Dragunas (Gint) of Finksburg, MD and C. Maria Coleman of Southaven, MS; two sisters, Jacquelyn Warren (Fritz) of Hawaii and Ann Forrester of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; twelve grandchildren, Charles, Katherine, Evan, Joshua, Jacob, Joseph, Catarina, Christopher, Travis, Kimberly, Rebecca and Kelly; five great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, great-nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Mary Episcopal Church, 108 N King Ave, Dyersburg, TN 38024 or to Matthew 25:40, 432 W Court Street, Dyersburg, TN.
